BIOGRAPHY:

Karmen Suter holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan in flute performance. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California in music education. She also spent a semester at Indiana University serving as an associate instructor in the music education department. Her principal teachers have included Amy Porter (former principal flutist of the Atlanta Symphony), Gary Woodward (principal flutist of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra) and Kathryn Lukas (former principal flute of the Santa Fe Opera Company).

Ms. Suter is currently serving as the Artistic Director and flutist for the Austin, Texas based new music concert series Audio Inversions. She is a winner of the National Flute Association Convention Performers competition and has recently performed with many ensembles including the Austin Pops, the Camerata Orchestra in Bloomington, Indiana, All Rivers at Once, and the Breve Duo. Ms. Suter has also performed with several university ensembles and countless chamber ensembles throughout the country. She is a musician dedicated to the music of our time and to exploring new and unique performance styles. She frequently collaborates with emerging and established composers to create new compositions for flute.

Ms. Suter performs and teaches in the Austin, Texas area where she lives with her husband, composer Anthony Suter.
